The highly-anticipated Singapore Budget 2018 that was delivered yesterday introduced a slew of initiatives to help businesses cope with cost pressures. In January 2018, the Corporate Governance Council (“Council”) proposed revisions to the Code of Corporate Governance (“Code”). Arising from the Council’s recommendations, the Singapore Exchange Limited is proposing amendments to the listing rules. Key changes include streamlining the Code to encourage more meaningful and thoughtful application as opposed to a box-ticking mentality. The proposed changes also aim to strengthen board quality through encouraging board renewal and independence. This seminar will discuss key proposed changes to the Code and the considerations behind such recommendations.
